When you sort your shell beans in the summer, put them in a freezer bag and store them in the freezer, you can cook fresh cranberry beans whenever you want in the winter. In our recipe, we used fresh shell beans, which we put in the freezer from the summer. You can put your cranberry beans in 1 kg bags and store them in the freezer for up to 1 year.

Carrots are sauted before sauteing the shell beans. This is because carrot is a hard vegetable, so it takes a long time to cook. Therefore, the carrots are sauted first.

If you chop the onions small, the onion pieces you cut will not be visible in the dish. Thus, your food looks more aesthetic.

If you are using homemade tomato paste, you need to adjust the salt of your food well. Homemade tomato paste is a little salty, so if you use additional salt in your food, it may turn out to be too salty.

If you use red capia pepper in your food, as we do, your food will be much more delicious. In addition, red capia pepper is a very good source of vitamin c.

If you cook your food on low heat, the food will be more delicious. The reason for this is that all the ingredients are cooked in a very balanced way, from the inside to the outside.

You can consume your shell beans cold as an appetizer as well as hot. In Turkish cuisine, cranberry beans in olive oil is consumed as an appetizer alongside raki.

You can serve the dish with yogurt or with a winter salad which is made with black cabbage, carrots and greens.

Shell Beans Recipe Ingredients 

Half kg Fresh Shell Beans

2 Chopped Carrots

1 Chopped Onion

2 Chopped Garlics

1 Tablespoon Tomato Paste

7 Tablespoons Olive Oil

1 Teaspoon Salt

2 Red Peppers

3 Cups (600 ml) Boiling Water







How to Cook Cranberry Beans ?

Put 7 tablespoons of olive oil in the pan.

Start roasting by adding 2 chopped carrots.

Saute the carrots until they soften a little.

Then add the chopped onions and continue sauting.

Add 2 chopped garlics.

Add 1 tablespoon of tomato paste and mix.

Add 2 chopped red peppers.

Add 500 grams of fresh cranberry beans.

Mix the ingredients well.

Add 3 cups (600 ml) of boiling water to the pot.

Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the food.

Close the lid of the pot and cook on low heat for about 45 minutes.

You can serve the dish hot or cold.
